FES is a custom sheet metal fabrication shop that specializes in fire apparatus. We are committed to meeting the unique needs of fire departments throughout the Eastern United States with quality, made-to-order equipment.
Some of our customers come in with a concept, and we go from there. Others have seen and like something we did for another customer, so we build something similar, making minor changes as needed like tool placement, lights, artwork, etc. We offer a very specific unique process to meet each customer’s needs.
Once the type of truck has been decided, the chassis is ordered and production starts. Everything happens in house: fabrication, welding, painting, artwork. If you can dream it, we can do it.
We understand that accidents happen. It's a fact of life and--unfortunately--one especially true of our industry. Our repair shop will get your equipment back in action, so that you can get back on the road doing what you do best.
Our technicians’ training includes EVT Certification and specialty training per the original equipment manufacturers’ recommendations to meet your needs. We are your service center for all makes of fire apparatus, including Hale Pumps, Spartan Chassis, Will-burt Lighting, and HME.
In addition, through our twelve-foot mobile service center, we guarantee 24-hour emergency repair service on apparatus during the applicable warranty period. We are capable of providing warranty service for HME, Spartan, Hale, Waterous, and Darley.
We can also perform all of your apparatus testing and maintenance needs.
FES’s story began with Tom Garrity. He owned and managed the company for 28 years before passing away in November 2012. Fortunately, Mr. Garrity had built a strong group of employees who remain the “backbone” of FES, continuing his passion for fire equipment.
Thanks to these employees, FES was in a strong position when its current owner, Al Willimon, acquired the company in 2013.
“My goal for FES is to continue to produce fire apparatus that is known for its quality and attention to detail. Our employees in Sumter are excited to continue doing what they love: building the finest brush trucks, rescues, and tankers around,” Willimon said.
“Tom Garrity created a great company. We want to continue that legacy and help FES reach its full potential.”
After serving in the US Army and as an officer with the Simpsonville Fire Department, Al Willimon founded Safe Industries in 2005, which reflected Al’s passion for taking care of the needs of firefighters. So too does FES, which Al acquired in 2013, knowing it would be a great partner with FES. Safe Industries sells equipment such as hose, nozzles, and portable breathing apparatuses which can be packaged with the trucks that are manufactured in Sumter.
